Woodoku Journey Level 61
๐ Walkthrough
Overview
Level 61 is a two-color gem collection level on a 9ร9 board. The top of the screen shows two gem counters: gold gems (starting at 12) and blue gems (starting at 12). To collect a gem you must place a wooden block directly on top of it. The board starts with gold and blue gems scattered across rows 1, 4, 5, 7, and 9, with a few pre-placed light blocks near the center. The strategy is to sweep both colors evenly, because the two counters must both reach zero โ if you drain one color first and then run out of space, the other color remains and you fail.
- Difficulty: Regular
- Estimated moves: ~24 placements
Step-by-Step Solution
- At the opening frame (t=10), you see 12 gold and 12 blue gems. Gold gems are at the corners of row 1 and in a cluster on row 7; blue gems are scattered through rows 2, 4, and 9. The tray offers a small L with a gold gem on it, a vertical 2-block, and an L-corner. Start by placing the small L onto the top-left gold gem (row 1 column 1) โ the L's other block sits on row 2 column 1.
- Next, place the vertical 2-block on the top-right gold gem (row 1 column 9), stacking down into row 2 column 9. This mirrors step 1 and collects two corner golds.
- Drop the L-corner onto the blue gem at row 2 column 4, extending the L into row 3 column 4. This begins collecting the blue cluster in the upper-middle.
- Continue alternating: every time you collect two golds, collect two blues. This keeps both counters draining at the same rate. By t=120, the counters read 4 gold and 3 blue โ you are nearly halfway done and the board is about half-filled.
- At t=120, the remaining gems are clustered in rows 5โ8. The tray offers a T-piece. Place the T so its bar covers the blue gem at row 5 column 6 and the gold at row 5 column 8, with the stem dipping into row 6.
- From here, work the bottom half. Place L-pieces so each one touches one gold and one blue gem; this is the most efficient way to drain both counters simultaneously.
- By t=200, the blue counter has hit 0 (showing a checkmark), but 3 gold gems remain. The board is crowded. Prioritize any piece that can cover a gold gem, and use row clears to open space.
- At t=220, only 1 gold gem remains at row 7 column 8. The tray offers a small L. Place the L so one block lands on that gold gem and the other extends into row 7 column 7.
- As soon as the block touches the last gold gem, the counter flips to 0, three big gems (one blue, two gold) pop up on screen, and "WELL DONE!" appears (t=228).
Strategy & Reasoning
The critical insight on a two-color gem level is that you must drain both counters in lockstep. The failed primary recording ends with 1 gold and 7 blue gems still on the board โ the player over-collected blue early and then ran out of space before getting the golds. The winning fallback instead alternates gold and blue placements so that by the halfway point both counters are down by the same amount.
The opening corner placements are deliberate: the four corners (row 1 col 1, row 1 col 9, row 9 col 1, row 9 col 9) are the hardest to reach late-game because awkward L and T pieces cannot fit into a 1-wide corner gap. By clearing them first, you avoid a situation where the last remaining gem is stuck in a corner with no tray piece that can reach it.
The late game (last 3 gems) is always the same: the board is crowded, so every placement must cover a remaining gem AND trigger a row clear. If you place a piece that covers a gem but does not clear a row, you use up space without opening any, and you will likely fail on the next piece.
Tips & Common Mistakes
- Mistake: Draining one color all the way to zero before touching the other. Correct approach: Alternate gold and blue placements so both counters reach 0 around the same time.
- Mistake: Leaving the corner gems for last. Correct approach: Clear the four corner gems in the first few moves; they become unreachable once the board fills.
- Mistake: Placing pieces that cover a gem but do not trigger a row clear in the late game. Correct approach: With 3 or fewer gems left, only make placements that also clear a row; otherwise you run out of space.
