Woodoku Journey Level 65
๐ Walkthrough
Overview
Level 65 is a mailbox-collecting Journey level on a 9ร9 board with a move budget of 12. The top of the screen shows an envelope icon and a counter that starts at 12. Three red mailboxes sit in a horizontal row near the bottom (row 8, columns 2, 5, and 8), with a few pre-placed light blocks around them. The rest of the board is empty. The strategy is to cover the three mailboxes efficiently, then use the remaining moves to clear rows and stay alive. The primary recording for this level ends prematurely (still showing 6 mailboxes when the video cuts off), so this walkthrough uses the successful fallback recording.
- Difficulty: Easy
- Estimated moves: 12
Step-by-Step Solution
- At the opening frame (t=10), you see three red mailboxes in row 8 at columns 2, 5, and 8. The bottom two rows are already partially filled with light blocks. The upper 7 rows are empty. The tray offers L-corner pieces.
- Start by placing an L-corner over the first mailbox at row 8 column 2. The L's other block extends into row 9 column 2.
- Place a second L-corner over the middle mailbox at row 8 column 5, extending into row 9 column 5.
- Place a third L-corner over the right mailbox at row 8 column 8, extending into row 9 column 8. After these three moves, all three mailboxes are covered.
- The rest of the level is normal Woodoku placement. By t=70, the counter reads 5 (meaning 5 moves remain). The board has light blocks filling the lower two-thirds, with dark gaps in the upper rows.
- Use the next few moves to fill the upper rows. Place the horizontal bar (visible in the tray at t=70) across row 3, which is already partially filled. This triggers a row clear.
- Continue placing L and T pieces into the upper rows, building toward additional clears. The counter drains from 5 to 0.
- At t=115, the final placement triggers a row clear, the counter flips to 0, three envelope icons pop up on screen, and "WELL DONE!" appears.
Strategy & Reasoning
The board is deliberately simple: three mailboxes in a horizontal row, with the bottom two rows pre-filled. The opening three L-pieces cover all three mailboxes in three moves, leaving 9 moves for pure space management. This is why the level feels easy once the mailboxes are gone.
The middle game is about not filling the upper rows too densely. The recording keeps the upper rows as a buffer, placing pieces along the edges and in rows that are already nearly full. This is the correct approach for any mailbox level: once the mailboxes are collected, you just need to survive until the counter reaches zero.
The failed primary recording ends with 6 mailboxes still on the board, which means the player never got around to covering the bottom-row mailboxes and instead filled the board with random pieces. The lesson is to identify the target objects first and cover them immediately.
Tips & Common Mistakes
- Mistake: Ignoring the mailboxes and filling the board with random pieces. Correct approach: Cover all three bottom-row mailboxes in the first three moves.
- Mistake: Filling the upper buffer rows after the mailboxes are collected. Correct approach: Keep the upper rows partially empty as a landing strip for late-game pieces.
- Mistake: Using large pieces on empty rows. Correct approach: Place large pieces on rows that are already nearly full, to trigger clears.
