Woodoku Journey Level 64

๐Ÿ“ Walkthrough

Overview

Level 64 is a two-color gem collection level on a 9ร—9 board, starting with 17 blue gems and 17 light-blue gems. The gems are arranged in pairs along all four edges: top row corners, bottom row corners, left edge rows 4โ€“5, and right edge rows 4โ€“5. The center of the board is empty. The primary recording for this level ends prematurely (still showing 4/4 gems when the video cuts off), so this walkthrough uses the successful fallback recording, which runs about 4 minutes. The strategy is to clear the edge gems first, then work inward.

  • Difficulty: Regular
  • Estimated moves: ~24 placements

Step-by-Step Solution

  1. At the opening frame (t=10), the board shows paired gems in all four corners and along the middle of the left and right edges. The tray offers a horizontal 3-bar, a small L with a gem on it, and another L-corner. Start by placing the horizontal 3-bar across row 5 columns 1โ€“3, covering the two left-edge gems in one move.
  1. Mirror that placement on the right edge: place the next horizontal piece across row 5 columns 7โ€“9, covering the two right-edge gems.
  1. Drop the small L onto the top-left corner pair (row 1 columns 1โ€“2). The L's shape fits perfectly over the two corner gems.
  1. Mirror that on the top-right corner pair (row 1 columns 8โ€“9). After these four moves, all four corner pairs are collected.
  1. Continue working the bottom corners: place L-pieces on the bottom-left and bottom-right pairs (row 9 columns 1โ€“2 and 8โ€“9).
  1. By t=120, the counters read 7 blue and 1 light-blue. The light-blue color is almost done; focus the next few moves on remaining blue gems scattered in the middle rows.
  1. At t=180, only a few gems remain. The board is crowded. Place pieces that cover a gem AND extend a nearly-complete row.
  1. At t=220, the light-blue counter has hit 0 (checkmark), but 1 blue gem remains at row 5 column 6. The tray offers a small 2-block. Place it so one block lands on that gem.
  1. As soon as the block touches the last gem, both counters flip to 0, three big gems pop up on screen, and "WELL DONE!" appears (t=225).

Strategy & Reasoning

The board is symmetric: four corner pairs plus two edge pairs. The opening sequence deliberately clears all six edge pairs in the first six moves, because edge and corner gems become unreachable once the board fills with internal blocks. If you instead start placing pieces in the center, the corners get blocked off and you will never collect the corner gems.

The middle game drains the remaining interior gems. By t=120, the light-blue counter is nearly at 0 while blue still has 7 โ€” this is fine as long as the board has space. The winning recording keeps the center as a buffer, placing pieces along the edges.

The final gem is at row 5 column 6, which is deep in the board. The recording's last placement works because the tray happens to offer a small 2-block that fits exactly into the gap around that gem. If the tray had offered a larger piece, it might not have fit.

Tips & Common Mistakes

  • Mistake: Starting with pieces in the center of the board. Correct approach: Clear the four corner pairs first; they become unreachable later.
  • Mistake: Ignoring the symmetry of the board. Correct approach: Mirror left/right placements so both edges build evenly.
  • Mistake: Filling the center buffer once the edge gems are done. Correct approach: Keep the center open as a landing strip for the final interior gems.
