Overview

Woodoku Journey Level 40 is a Halloween-themed block puzzle on a 9×9 wood board with two mixed collection goals shown at the top: collect 7 gray envelopes and 8 apples. Envelopes are delivered by the red mailbox boxes fixed on the left side of the board, while apples sit inside a 3×2 green orchard cluster in the center. Both types are harvested the same way: complete a full row or column that passes through the relevant special cell. You drag wood shapes from the bottom tray in sets of three, and any completed line disappears. The level is won when both counters reach zero; it is lost when no tray piece fits.

Step-by-Step Solution

1. At the 31-second mark the counters read 7 envelopes and 8 apples. The two red mailboxes sit side by side in the upper-left area, and the apple orchard is a compact 3×2 green block in the middle. Start by setting the first small tray pieces along the left edge so that the rows running through the mailboxes begin to fill.
2. The first tray offers a vertical 3-bar and a small corner-with-bar on the right. Stand the vertical bar up in the far-left column, and place the corner piece immediately to the right of the mailboxes, extending the row that contains both boxes.
3. Push short horizontal bars into that same mailbox row. By keeping every piece in the two rows around the mailboxes, you aim to complete one of those rows and sweep both envelopes at once rather than one at a time.
4. Shift to the center orchard. The green apple block spans three columns and two rows; build horizontal fills on both of its rows so that completing either row harvests several apples together. At the 63-second frame the board is around 40% filled, with the orchard already partly ringed by placed blocks.
5. When the tray offers the two small corner pieces and a tall plus-shaped piece (visible in the 63-second frame), use the plus shape in the center-left pocket where a 3-wide by 3-tall gap remains, and tuck the corners into the top-left and top-right open spots.
6. Through the late game the counters slowly fall. By the 94-second frame they read 5 envelopes and 6 apples, meaning two of each have been collected so far.
7. The run then collapses. The lower half has filled with scattered blocks leaving narrow vertical gaps, and the remaining tray shapes cannot fit; the screen ends on "NO SPACE LEFT" with both objectives still partly unfinished.

Strategy & Reasoning

This board is a double objective, so the efficient plan is to service both the mailboxes and the orchard from the shared center of the board. The mailboxes live in the upper-left rows and the orchard in the middle columns; pieces placed in the center can contribute to lines feeding either side. The reference run fills the center reasonably, which is why it does collect a handful of both envelope and apple tokens.

What hurts the run is that the player treats the board as open space to fill rather than as a set of target lines. Once the easy rows around the orchard are partly built, dumping the remaining pieces into the lower rows creates isolated holes. The winning approach is to stop expanding outward and instead finish the half-built lines through the orchard and mailboxes in order, clearing rows before new blocks are placed on top of them.
