Woodoku Journey Level 26

๐Ÿ“ Walkthrough

Overview

Level 26 is an 8x8 wood-block puzzle board in the Halloween Journey skin, with spider-web accents in the bottom corners. The objective is to collect six red gems and four cyan gems scattered across the board. The red gems are clustered along the bottom edge and upper-left area, while the cyan gems are tucked in the middle rows. The board is otherwise empty, so you have plenty of room to build compact clusters. This is a regular-difficulty stage and should take roughly fifteen moves.

  • Difficulty: Regular
  • Estimated moves: 15

Step-by-Step Solution

  1. When the level opens, read the gem layout. Six red gems and four cyan gems are spread across the board. Red gems cluster along the bottom row and the upper-left area, while cyan gems sit in the middle rows. The first tray contains three small pieces: a small L-corner, a tiny zig-zag, and a short horizontal bar.
  1. Start by placing the short horizontal bar across the bottom row, aiming to cover the red gems along the bottom edge. Position the bar so that it spans three contiguous cells that include one or two of the bottom-edge red gems. This collects those gems and begins a horizontal anchor line along row 8.
  1. Take the small L-corner and place it against the upper-left red gem. Angle the L so that one cell covers the red gem and the other two extend along a row. This collects that red gem and extends your anchor line.
  1. Pick up the tiny zig-zag piece and drop it near the next red gem in the upper-left cluster. The zig-zag's offset shape fits naturally into a corner pocket, so tuck it in so that its covering cell lands on the gem.
  1. A new tray appears. Watch the counter: you should now see roughly four red and four cyan gems remaining. The board still has large empty zones in the center. Continue placing pieces so that each new piece touches the cluster you have already built.
  1. When a small L-corner arrives, aim it at one of the cyan gems in the middle rows. Place one cell on the cyan gem and let the rest of the L extend along a row or column. This collects the cyan gem and extends a line that can later be cleared.
  1. Keep routing pieces toward the edge gems. The red gems on the bottom edge become hard to reach once the center fills up, so collect them early with the first available corner pieces.
  1. When a horizontal bar arrives, lay it across a row that already has several filled cells. This both collects a gem and sets up a future line clear. The line clear resets the row to empty, which opens space for the next tray.
  1. By the midpoint of the run, the counter shows roughly one red and zero cyan gems remaining. The board is now quite filled, with wood blocks packed across the middle rows.
  1. Use the next horizontal bar to complete an almost-full row, which triggers a clear and opens up a pocket of empty cells.
  1. Drop the next L-corner piece into the pocket you created, covering the second-to-last red gem. As soon as it seats, the counter drops by one.
  1. The final small piece should be shaped to reach the last red gem. Drag that piece so its covering cell lands on the last gem. The moment it snaps in, both counters drop to zero with checkmarks, the board dims, and the "WELL DONE!" text fades in with floating gem icons. The level is cleared.

Strategy & Reasoning

The key to this level is that the gems are spread across the whole board, so you cannot simply stack pieces in one corner. The optimal strategy is to prioritize edge gems early, because those gems are the hardest to reach once the center fills. If you delay collecting the edge gems, you will eventually find that the only pieces that can legally reach them are tiny corners, and those corners are exactly the pieces you need for the central cluster.

Building long anchor lines matters because it gives you natural line clears that reset rows and columns. Every piece you place on a long line does double duty: it collects a gem and it extends a line that can later be cleared. A line clear both scores points and resets a row to empty, which is the only way to keep the board alive when the tray starts delivering larger pieces late in the run.

The main failure mode on this level is running out of space before the last gem is collected. That happens when players scatter pieces across the board instead of stacking them, leaving isolated single-cell pockets that no piece can fill. By keeping all filled cells connected in a single compact cluster, you preserve large open rectangles in the center of the board that can absorb any piece the tray delivers.

Tips & Common Mistakes

  • Mistake: Spreading pieces evenly across all eight rows to "balance" the board. Correct approach: stack pieces in one connected cluster on the edge gems. Scattered pieces create dead pockets.
  • Mistake: Ignoring the edge gems and only working the center. Correct approach: collect the edge gems early with the first available corner pieces.
  • Mistake: Trying to force row clears before all gems are collected. Correct approach: let clears happen as a side effect of placing pieces on gem cells.
