Brain Out 2 Level 83
๐ Walkthrough
Overview
Level 83 asks "What if there is only one arrow?" A female archer stands on a cliff edge, scratching her head in confusion, with a single arrow nocked on her bow. Five vultures are circling in the air to her right โ far more than she has arrows for. The puzzle is about defeating five flying enemies with one projectile. The victory message "Defend the Horde!" confirms that all five birds must be brought down without running out of arrows, which means a single shot has to account for all of them.
- Difficulty: Regular
- Estimated moves: 2
Step-by-Step Solution
- Count the problem. Notice the archer has only one arrow on her bow, while five vultures are scattered in the air. A normal one-bird-per-shot approach is impossible.
- Do not fire immediately. Shooting at a random bird leaves four alive and you out of arrows. The scattered positions are the obstacle, not the solution.
- Gather the birds into one line. Drag the vultures with your finger, pulling them until they overlap or line up in a single horizontal row so that a straight arrow path passes through every bird at once.
- Shoot the single arrow. Once all five birds are lined up, draw the bow and loose the one arrow. It travels along the row and pierces every bird in its path.
- Confirm the defense. One by one the lined-up vultures fall away until none remain in the sky. The archer lowers her bow confidently, and the screen shows "Defend the Horde!" The level is cleared.
Strategy & Reasoning
This is an economy-of-resource puzzle. The constraint "one arrow" only feels impossible if you assume one arrow can hit one target. Brain Out's trick is to change the geometry instead of changing the number of arrows: arrange the targets so that a single straight projectile passes through all of them.
The birds are initially spread across the sky precisely so that a blind shot would waste the only arrow. By making the birds draggable, the game invites you to reposition the problem. Once the five vultures overlap into a line, the ballistics become trivial โ one arrow, one straight trajectory, all targets.
The title's word "horde" reinforces this: the threat is a group, and defending against a group with one arrow is possible only if the group can be compressed onto a single line. There is no second arrow to find, no stronger bow to upgrade, and no way to shoot multiple times โ the whole puzzle is about lining the enemies up.
Tips & Common Mistakes
- Mistake: shooting right away. Firing before lining up the birds spends your only arrow on one vulture and leaves you stuck. Wait until they are stacked before releasing.
- Mistake: hunting for more arrows. The quiver is empty on purpose; there is no second arrow hidden anywhere. The answer is not a second projectile.
- Mistake: leaving gaps in the line. If even one bird is offset above or below the arrow's path, it survives. Make sure all five are overlapped in a single row before you loose the shot.
