Brain Out 2 Level 158
๐ Walkthrough
Overview
Level 158 is a "help the cat eat fish" puzzle set on a riverbank. A drooling white cat sits at the water's edge staring at a single fish swimming just offshore, while a shovel lies on the grass to the right and an eagle circles overhead. The opening hint reads "I really want to eat fish!". The trick is that the cat cannot reach the fish itself and the shovel is a decoy; the real tool is a butterfly net belonging to a girl who is hiding behind the large flowering bush on the left. Once she is revealed and her net is used to scoop the fish, the cat gets its meal.
- Difficulty: Regular
- Estimated moves: 3
Step-by-Step Solution
- Assess the scene. Look at the cat, the fish in the river, the shovel on the grass, and the big flower-covered bush on the left. The cat wants the fish but is stuck on the bank.
- Do not tap the cat or try to grab the fish directly. If you poke the cat or attempt to reach the fish by hand, a red cross appears showing that the direct approach is wrong. The cat has no way to reach into the water.
- Move the large bush on the left aside. The big flowering shrub is hiding something. Drag the bush to the side and a girl in a yellow dress steps out, holding a butterfly net.
- Use the butterfly net as a fishing net. Bring the girl's net down to the water and position it in the river right next to the fish. The shallow hoop-and-mesh design works just like a landing net.
- Scoop the fish. Move the net under the fish and lift it out of the water. Sparkles burst around the net as the fish is caught.
- Let the cat eat. The cat takes the caught fish and stops drooling, smiling with satisfaction. The hint updates to "Use the tools to catch the fish!" and the level clears with the green arrow button.
Strategy & Reasoning
The level teaches you to ignore the obvious props and look for hidden interactables. The shovel on the right is intentionally placed to bait you into digging or improvising, but it never changes โ it stays on the grass in every step. The eagle in the sky is pure background decoration.
The decisive move is realising that the largest bush is not scenery. In Brain Out, oversized foreground foliage often conceals a character or object. Once the bush is dragged away, the girl and her butterfly net become available, and the "tool" the hint refers to is not the shovel but this net. A butterfly net is awkward for catching butterflies but perfectly shaped for scooping a small fish near the surface, which is the pun the puzzle relies on.
Trying to solve it by tapping also fails because the required interactions are drag operations: first moving the bush to reveal the girl, then moving the net into the water. Recognising the bush as draggable is the key insight.
Tips & Common Mistakes
- Mistake: trying to use the shovel. The shovel is a decoy. Dragging it to the water does nothing, and it stays untouched even in the solved frame. Ignore it.
- Mistake: tapping the cat or the fish. Direct taps produce the red cross. The cat cannot swim or reach the fish; you must supply a tool.
- Mistake: leaving the bush in place. Players scan the visible props and miss the hidden girl. The large flowering bush on the left must be dragged aside to reveal the butterfly net that actually catches the fish.
